SWEET LOVE AND DEADLY

Posted by Jean Jessup on Friday, September 30, 2011,

Review on the Run: Sweet Love and Deadly, a Tucson-made film noir feature written and directed by Paul E. Clinco, fit right in with the dark and edgy films shown at this year's AZ Underground Film Festival.  The acting was excellent as was the high-quality black and white cinematography and editing; although I think the film could have been tightened up a little.  After encountering audio difficulties on location, Clinco undertook the mammoth project of re-recording the entire audio track to ...

WE ARE THE MODS

Posted by Jean Jessup on Saturday, September 24, 2011,

Review on the Run: We are the Mods is an engaging coming-of-age type film about Sadie a photographer in her senior year of high school and her close relationship with Nico, a fellow student who is outspoken, rebellious and into 60's Mod Culture. From their relationship, Sadie is inspired to open up her creativity.  Great character & story development, cinematography, acting and great clothes!  Also a nice introduction to Mod Culture in San Francisco.  Recommended!

Review on the Run: Savage, based on a Swedish true story, is an in-depth, cinema verite style character study of Kim, a frustrated young man who is trying to lift himself out of the low vibrational life he's grown up in with his cold, menacing father, who makes a living as a petty criminal.  In a forced and desperate attempt to create a new life for himself, he meets with frustration and loss at every step.  His friends lives are unconsciously frustrated by their respective home environments ...

YAKUZA WEAPON

Posted by Jean Jessup on Wednesday, September 21, 2011,

Review on the Run: I wimped out on Yakuza Weapon (Gokudo Heiki), a tongue-and-cheek gore-fest film for an adult male's inner bad boy.  I left during the last 1/4th of the film; I was tired and not up for the massive amounts of intense maiming and killing.  I now realized what the genre label "ultraviolent" means.  All the men I interviewed absolutely loved this film.  The movie was populated by one-dimensional bad-ass characters who waved their machismo around like huge flame-throwers while p...

MARIANNE

Review on the Run: Marianne is a Swedish ghost story about a man who is suffering from the guilt of failed relationships and the death of his wife.  He is also suffering from sleep paralysis and experiencing nightly supernatural visitations from a female being.  His therapist takes the mainstream view that his nighttime experience is a hallucination.  His daughter's slightly eccentric boyfriend, believes it might be a Mare, a Succubus-type creature from Swedish mythology.  A very-well acted e...

WE ARE ALL CYLONS

Posted by Jean Jessup on Monday, September 19, 2011, In : Documentary

Review on the Run: We are all Cylons is an insightful documentary about the fans of Battlestar Galactica and an exploration into why the series is so deeply important to viewers.  I have never seen this series, but am now very inspired to see what all the fuss is about.  One of the main themes of Battlestar Galactica is the combining of artificial intelligence (AI) with humanness.  Scientific thinkers in the medical field and technology are also interviewed and discuss our attraction and obse...
