Posted by Jean Jessup on Monday, June 11, 2012, In : Webisode

Zhon: The Alien Interviews is a webisode about an alien from another planet named Zhon, played by Robert Linden, who shows up at a US Secret Service office hoping to be interviewed by Amanda Bella, played by Alida Holguin Gunn, a beautiful host of a spiritual TV talk show.  As a result he's kept in custody by Secret Service Agents, among them, Agent Killjoy, played by Eric Schumacher  The agents are trying to determine if he really is an alien.  They do allow Amanda Bella to interview him and...

AUTHENTIC PRODUCTIONS BEST OF 2011 FILM SCREENING

Posted by Jean Jessup on Monday, March 19, 2012, In : Shorts

On March 16, 2012, Authentic Productions, a local film production company, which I would call a real film collective, presented themselves to the Tucson community by holding a screening of some of their works at the Crossroads Cinema.  Their event included a red carpet photo shoot complete with professional photographers and a meet-and-greet with the cast and crew of the featured sh...

FIRST FRIDAY SHORTS - JANUARY 2012

Posted by Jean Jessup on Sunday, January 22, 2012, In : Shorts

JANUARY 2012 FIRST FRIDAY SHORTS (FFS)

The Loft Theater was packed and so was the parking lot.  I had to find parking on the street.  Michael Sterner was “UNWELL” as Max Cannon put it.  He also introduced the New Year as the “Beginning of Oblivion.”  Now I see where he goes on the internet.  Personally, I think it’s going to be a great year for people who are awake enough...

DECEMBER 2011 FIRST FRIDAY SHORTS (FFS)

I got my press pass for the First Friday Shorts!  I love my pass.  It has my name in big letters and (not to worry, Loft Cinema) of course, I will ONLY use it for the First Friday Shorts.  I feel so legit, supported and special now.

Filler shorts before the show started:

I couldn’t find the Christmas puppet filler short, but I found this one instead:

Santa in Animal Land (1948)

Mah Na Mah Na

FIRST FRIDAY SHORTS OCTOBER 2011

Posted by Jean Jessup on Saturday, October 15, 2011, In : Shorts

I missed all the beginning filler shorts because I was very late, but in time for the first entry.  Overall the shorts were surprisingly very good which made for decent viewing for my very critical friend, Tina Huerta, who is a local producer of indie films.  She attended to do research on a secret project that we are doing together.

Especially clever comments by Mike Sterner this month and Max was in great form.  There was that great feeling of a wild slumber party in the theater.

S.O.L., "Shit Outta Luck"

Posted by Jean Jessup on Friday, July 22, 2011,

Don't let the poster fool you into thinking that S.O.L. is another teen suicide.  Far from it!  It's a romantic comedy/coming-of-age type story for older boys who don't live at home anymore.  Written, directed and produced by Yuri Machado and  Authentic Productions, S.O.L. tells the tale of Victor, a twenty-something guy, who is shy with girls and finally realizes that internet porn is no replacement for a relationship with a real woman.  This is an important message!  Get off the internet an...

MAGIC HOUR

Posted by Jean Jessup on Sunday, May 15, 2011,

MAGIC HOUR was the University of AZ BFA class of 2012’s student short films screening event hosted by the Loft Cinema.  The shorts had very high production values, including great lighting, cinematography and color-correction which made for easy viewing.  At this time, I’ve only been able to find one of the shorts online.

CHECKING OUT by Damon Mosier, Director & Darious Britt, Director of Photography.  This is a dark comedy short about two thugs who accidently kill their hostage and...

6TH ANNUAL GOLDEN GONG AWARDS

6TH ANNUAL GOLDEN GONG AWARDS

I usually don't like these year-end First Friday Shorts (FFS) awards because in the past, the audience has had such bad taste in picking winners.  But I was pleasantly surprised by the high quality of most of the films.

When I arrived on time at 9:00pm, the placed was absolutely packed.  I think there may have been one or two seats left in the large ground-floor screening room.  I also had to park across the street.  ...
